Our Coaches

Top End Calisthenics was established in 1982 by Barbara Van Heythuysen, affectionately known as “Miss Barb” to all.

Barbara Van Heythuysen

Miss Barb introduced calisthenics in Darwin in 1978 and continues her long association with Calisthenics, seeing many changes and providing such a wonderful environment and sport for young children, producing beautiful young ladies. Miss Barb is also now an examiner for skills and has been examining in Darwin and Adelaide.

Calisthenics would not be where it is today without the guidance and support of Miss Barb - thank you Miss Barb!

Our Club has a beautiful, loyal group of young coaches, most of them having been with us for many years - some even commencing their calisthenics with Miss Barb when they were very young.

Miss Barb remains to be influential with our young coaches and continues to mentor our coaches from afar. Our club are also fortunate to have established relationships with coaches from other states who are providing support to some of our coaches on a regular basis. We have formed some strong bonds with some highly experienced coaches in Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia and Queensland and this ensures the continued growth of our coaches and participants. All our coaches have attained Level 1. We will continue to provide mentoring to all our coaches and we thank all the mentors from interstate who are contributing their invaluable knowledge and experience to assist our coaches, participants and ultimately our club.
